So far I am only partway through the second chapter - there is a wealth of information just in this much of the book though.
I have learned about post-traumatic and post-ecstatic growth, the regrets of the dying, the spotlight theory of attention, cognitive absorption, flow, synchronization, empathy, neural coupling, and so much more!
McGonigal sites many scientific studies on the use of games to alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety, topics which are undoubtedly of interest and have effect on the lives of millions of people.
I will share one quote I found particularly striking from pp. 55 "Only by becoming a mirror of someone else are you able to accurately deduce his intentions," on the topic of mirror neurons (McGonigal 2015).
That is all I will say about the book because I want to encourage everyone to read it for themselves! If your local library doesn't yet have a copy request it via Interlibrary loan or request that they acquire it for their collection.
