A Day in the Life of B
Wednesday September 16, 2015
To say “a day in the life” implies
that there is some set of activities that I deem “typical” for my days, or that
I have some kind of set schedule to which I adhere - which I suppose isn’t altogether
untrue, but simultaneously isn’t 100% honest either.
It would be more manageable to
just sort of list the activities that my days include on a more general basis
but in no particular order usually. I
work strange hours and my sleep schedule is a little unusual so when I do things is less important than that I do them.
Two of the most important and
also newest routines that I have started on a daily basis in my life are mindfulness
meditation and yoga. Both for ten
minutes every day, and neither with perfect consistency so far.
I also try to include some kind
of light exercise like walking in my day.
I have a dog named Heidi and she requires frequent walking so that
satisfies this requirement sometimes.
I also read some kind of course
material every day as a requirement for whatever classes I happen to be
enrolled in at the time. Now it happens
to be Genealogy and Local history Collections and Web Technology in
Libraries.
I work at an academic library
five out of seven days. I am an access
services librarian and I supervise student workers. I provide reference service to students and I
work on various projects as I am assigned throughout the semesters. Upon hire I implemented a new usage
statistics tracking policy at the library for which I am mainly
responsible.
It would be dishonest if I did
not include that I have a good deal of time for leisure during most of my days,
and it is spent mostly with my partner /roommate. We spend much of our time discussing topics
of mutual interest like meditation, nutrition, health & fitness, and
music. We practice guitar together,
read, and listen to podcasts, among many other enjoyable activities. I hope to include him as a guest author on
this blog in the future as he is a great source of inspiration to me, and very knowledgeable.
In conclusion, I have a pretty
easy going day to day life and it is pretty wonderful. I’d like to wrap up with an exercise that my
partner/boyfriend encourages me to do which is a gratitude exercise. I have also heard of it from successful people
like Tony Robbins. You simply list three
things for which you are grateful:
1.
I am grateful for the fan on my desk that is blowing a very nice comfortable
breeze my way
2.
I am grateful for my relationship, and having a partner who appreciates so many
of the same things that I do
3. I am grateful for the opportunity to be in
school/in a master’s program that I enjoy so much
Thanks for reading
